Myth or truth: 4 myths about learning English
Do you need to know every word? Can you speak without perfect grammar? We bust the most common myths about learning English.
There are lots of myths about learning English, and they often stop people from even starting. At our school we clear up all those myths and doubts — here are the four most common.
Myth 1: you need to know every word
Truth: a basic vocabulary and regular practice are enough. Even native speakers don’t use every word in the dictionary in everyday life.
Myth 2: you can’t speak until your grammar is perfect
Truth: don’t be afraid to speak in short, confident sentences — people will understand you. Grammar comes with practice, not the other way round.
Myth 3: you can only learn from coursebooks
Truth: a coursebook is the foundation, but podcasts, films and games are great tools too! That’s why our lessons are full of games and real conversation.
Myth 4: you can learn English in 3 months
Truth: in three months you can make a real breakthrough and start speaking. But knowing a language fully takes time and consistent work.
